WhatsApp Breach Allows Hackers to Install Spyware on Phones

A security flaw in WhatsApp, the popular messaging service owned by Facebook, enabled cyber attackers to install Israeli spyware on a “select number” of phones, the company revealed. So reports Reuters and the Financial Times.

WhatsApp found in early May that hackers could put surveillance software on Apple and Android devices using the app’s voice-call tool. The malicious code, reportedly developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, may have targeted human rights groups who used the WhatsApp service, which is touted for its security.
