California DMV Sounds Alarm About Real ID Phishing Scam

California’s Department of Motor Vehicles has warned of a phishing scam involving REAL ID that aims for Californians’ personal identifying information. So reports the Sacramento Bee.

phishing 3390518 640 smallDMV Director Steve Gordon confirmed that a message some DMV customers have received relating to REAL ID—a federally approved form of identification under new requirements for domestic travel set to take effect on October 1—is phony.

The message reads: “Our records indicate that your contact information must be updated for REAL ID compliance. Provide an up-to-date mailing address and phone number.”
