Hacker Claims Theft of Chinese Police Data for a Billion People

An unknown hacker has purported to have snatched the personal details of one billion people in China from a Shanghai police database. So reports The Guardian.

china 156219 640smallIn a post on a hacker forum, a hacker calling themselves “ChinaDan” claimed the stolen databases held “information on 1 billion Chinese national residents and several billion case records, including: name, address, birthplace, national ID number, mobile number, all crime/case details.”

Zhao Changpeng, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, said the company had upgraded its user-verification protocol after spotting the sale of data belonging to 1 billion residents of an unspecified Asian country.
