Tesla's Huge Data Leak Could Lead to $3.3B Fine

A whistleblower’s recent leak of an enormous cache of data from Tesla could cost the electric carmaker a record $3.3 billion in penalties under Europe’s data privacy law. So reports Quartz.

tesla 1724773 1920The leak to German publication Handelsblatt reportedly included customer complaints, customer bank information, Tesla employee salaries, and details about Tesla CEO Elon Musk such as his Social Security number.

European Union countries may fine companies up to 4% of annual revenue for violations of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, and Tesla reported $81.5 billion in 2022 revenue.
