Stanford Looks Into 'Cybersecurity Incident' After Ransom Threat  

Stanford University has said that it was investigating what it called a “cybersecurity incident” following a ransomware group’s threat to leak confidential data from the university’s Department of Public Safety. So reports The Mercury News.

StanfordA group called Akira claimed to have 430 gigabytes of internal data from the department, threatening to publish it unless contacted by the university.

While Stanford’s statement acknowledging the incident didn’t directly address the alleged data theft or ransom demand, it said the university’s system is now secure and no other department appears to have been affected.
