Google Has Been Opening Its Vast Location Database to Police

Google has been allowing law enforcement officials nationwide to tap into Sensorvault, its massive cache of location records for at least hundreds of millions of devices around the globe. So reports The New York Times.

This approach can point police to potential suspects or witnesses, but it also threatens to ensnare innocent onlookers. Richard Salgado, Google’s director of law enforcement and information security, said in a statement that the company shared identifying details only “where legally required.”
