Baltimore Slowly Recovers After Cyber Attack Linked to NSA Tool

Baltimore began restoring regular email service for at least some municipal employees after a ransomware attack that crippled the city for more than three weeks. So reports the Baltimore Sun.

The city’s budget office estimated the attack will cost taxpayers at least $18.2 million in direct expenses and missed revenue after the mayor refused to pay a ransom in bitcoins valued at $76,000 on the day of the attack. A component leaked by the National Security Agency reportedly was involved in the Baltimore cyber attack.
