Ex-UK Security Chief Calls for Ban on Paying Cyber Ransoms

The former head of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre is urging Boris Johnson’s government to outlaw organizations paying cybercriminals in ransomware attacks. So reports Bloomberg.

ransomware 2318381 640Ciaran Martin, who stepped down earlier this month, said that if the government decides not to make it illegal to pay cyber extortionists then it must do something else to fight against the ransomware “scourge.”

Martin, currently a professor at Oxford University, has also been tapped as a managing director at private equity firm Paladin Capital Group.
