Health Insurer Excellus Inks $5.1M Data-breach Settlement

Excellus Health Plan has agreed to pay $5.1 million to settle an investigation by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights investigation into potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act’s privacy and security rules. So reports HIPAA Journal.

Excellus Health Plan, doing business as Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Univera Healthcare, did not admit or deny wrongdoing.
