Cyber Cops Disrupt Botnet As FBI Touts Ransomware Arrest

Cybercrime authorities from Europe and North America have teamed up to take down the Emotet botnet, a network of hijacked computers that criminal groups had used since 2014 to install ransomware. So reports the Associated Press.

ransomware 3998798 640 smallAt the same time, the FBI announced it had arrested a Canadian in connection with a newer ransomware gang that has allegedly garnered tens of millions of dollars.

Allan Liska, an analyst with Recorded Future, told the AP that Emotet was “one of the largest, if not the largest, botnets,” responsible for more than 10 million junk emails a week.
