Matt Aiello, leader of the global cybersecurity practice at executive recruiting firm Heidrick & Struggles, said that for many CISOs, the role is increasingly becoming a step on the way to new paths.
According to the firm’s 2021 global CISO survey, 47% of survey participants said they want to be board directors, while 44% said they want to add physical security to their jobs and become chief security officers, and 18% said they’d like to become entrepreneurs or consultants.
Meanwhile, chief risk officer was the choice of 16%, followed by CIOs for 12%, private equity officers for 8%, CEOs for 3% and developers of new tools at a security firm for 2%.
