Washington Enacts State Law On Cybersecurity  

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has signed Senate Bill 5518, which forms a new Cybersecurity Advisory Committee as a subpanel of the state’s Emergency Management Council. So reports KIRO 7 News.

Jay InsleeThe law, which takes effect on July 23, also sets up a Technology Services Board subcommittee and gives the state’s Department of Commerce more power to spend on cybersecurity planning.

“This new law is about starting the process of integrating cybersecurity into our emergency processes the same way we do with floods, fires and other emergencies across the state," the bill’s sponsor, state Sen. Matt Boehnke, said in a statement.
