FTC Official Urges National Data Breach Law

A U.S. trade official has called for Congress to pass federal data breach legislation. So reports Bloomberg.

Noah Phillips, a commissioner on the the Federal Trade Commission, said during an event hosted by the Brookings Institution that “the best thing we can do for privacy is” enact a nationwide data breach standard. California has the nation’s strongest privacy law and lawmakers there contend that the state’s existing safeguards shouldn’t be undermined by new federal legislation.
