GDPR Fines Soared to $1.2B in Past Year: Law Firm  

The European Union’s data protection watchdogs have levied $1.2 billion in fines under the bloc’s General Data Protection Regulation since January 28, 2021, according to research by law firm DLA Piper. So reports CNBC.

gdpr 3285252 1920That’s up sevenfold from a total of $180 million the previous year. Data breach notifications received by regulators from companies rose 8% to a daily average of 356.

GDPR, an expansive overhaul that took effect in 2018, requires companies to notify authorities within 72 hours of becoming aware of any data breach.
