Cyber Reporting Requirement Passes Congress in $1.5T Bill  

Congress has approved a $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill that includes a mandate for critical infrastructure companies to promptly disclose cyberattacks and ransomware payments. So report Insurance Journal and Cybersecurity Dive.

US Capitol washington dc 2533244 640The legislation, which requires incident reports be sent to the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, came under criticism from the FBI, which sought a more direct role.

The rules fit into a wider attempt by the White House and lawmakers to bolster U.S. cybersecurity amid prominent hacks.
