FCC Proposes Faster Data Breach Warnings for Telecom Customers  

The Federal Communications Commission has proposed rules that would eliminate the current mandatory waiting period of seven business days before telecommunications companies can notify customers about cybersecurity incidents. So reports Engadget.

Federal Communications CommissionThe FCC says existing rules, which are 15 years old, are “out of step” as it has often become essential to inform customers and authorities of data breaches without delay.

The FCC is seeking public feedback on the proposed rules, which would also clarify that carriers must notify customers of even accidental breaches, such as personal information being left exposed.
