Meta Faces Record $1.3B EU Fine Over Data Privacy  

The European Union’s data privacy watchdog has fined Meta €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion), the largest-ever penalty under Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation. So reports CNN.

MetaThe Irish Data Protection Commission said that Meta violated the GDPR by moving Facebook users’ personal data to systems in the United States.

Meta said it would appeal the ruling by European’s chief data regulator. Amazon was hit with the previous biggest fine under the EU’s signature data law, €746 million ($805.7 million), two years ago.
