SEC Sues SolarWinds CISO Over 2020 Russian Hack

The Securities and Exchange Commission has sued SolarWinds and its chief information security officer, Tim Brown, over a wide-ranging breach of the company’s software in a 2020 Russian cyber-spying effort. So reports ABC News.

SEC Seal of the United States Securities and Exchange CommissionThe SEC alleges that SolarWinds and Brown defrauded investors and customers by concealing the company’s security vulnerability ahead of the hack, which reached the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security and more than 100 private organizations.

According to a complaint filed in New York federal court, the securities regulator is seeking civil penalties, reimbursement and Brown’s ouster.
