Data Breaches Compromised 5 Billion Records Last Year

More than 6,500 publicly known data breaches took place last year, exposing about 5 billion sensitive records, according to a new study. So reports CSO.

The number of breaches was actually down from 2017, security intelligence vendor Risk Based Security said in the study, in spite of Europe implementing tougher disclosure rules. Two-thirds of known 2018 breaches took place in the business sector.
