One Arrested in Ransomware Attack Against N.C. Tribe

A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians who was also employed by the North Carolina tribe has been arrested after a ransomware attack that shut down tribal systems, tribal authorities said. So reports The Charlotte Observer.

Principal Chief Richard Sneed referred to the attack as “an act of domestic terrorism.”

“Our tribal networks were attacked with ransomware that began to infect all of our tribal systems,” Sneed said in a Facebook video post. “This attack was not made just against the EBCI tribal government but an attack directed against every tribal citizen and employee.”
