UCLA Health Reaches $7.5M Settlement Over Data Breach

UCLA Health has agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of patients whose sensitive personal data was exposed in a cyber attack detected in October 2014. So reports HIPAA Journal.

The breach, which UCLA Health disclosed in May 2015, ended up affecting 4.5 million people. The settlement includes $2 million to reimburse victims for the cost of protecting their identities and $5.5 million to establish a fund to bolster UCLA Health’s cybersecurity.
