Scripps Health to Pay $3.5M Over 2021 Data Breach  

Scripps Health has reached a settlement in litigation over a 2021 data breach that exposed the personal information of almost 1.2 million current and former patients and has agreed to pay more than $3.5 million. So reports San Diego’s CBS 8.

ScrippsThe settlement, which still requires judicial approval, calls for Scripps to pay $3.57 million in “minimum cash settlements” of $100 for each victim, plus as much as $7,500 to victims who suffered from identity theft and incurred “extraordinary out-of-pocket expenses.”

In the May 1, 2021 ransomware attack, hackers hobbled the hospital company’s computers and accessed data on customers’ health and personal finances.
