LockBit, the hacking group that recently claimed responsibility for a breach of UK financial data firm ION Group that disrupted derivatives trading globally, has alleged that a “very rich unknown philanthropist” paid its ransom. So reports Reuters.
LockBit declined to elaborate or provide evidence of the payment. ION declined to comment.
The ION ransomware wave interfered with trading and clearing of exchange-traded financial derivatives, likely affecting such clients as ABN Amro Clearing and Italy’s Intesa Sanpaolo.
