Huge Medical Data Breach Emerges After Fortra Cyberattack  

A ransomware attack earlier this year targeting software vendor Fortra’s GoAnywhere file-transfer program has led to the previously undisclosed theft of half a million people’s personal and health data. So reports TechCrunch.

FortraHealthcare technology company Intellihartx has notified the Maine attorney general’s office that 489,830 patients had their birthdates, Social Security numbers and other personal information exposed in the attack.

Attacks exploiting a newfound bug in the Fortra software in February hit more than a hundred entities, from multiple Stanford hospitals to Hitachi Energy. The Clop ransomware gang has claimed responsibility.
