California Retirement Breach Spurs Class-Action Lawsuit  

A major data breach of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, or CalPERS, has prompted a lawsuit that seeks class-action status. So reports The Sacramento Bee.

calpersIn a complaint filed in San Francisco federal court, CalPERS pensioners claim that PBI Research Services + Berwyn Group failed to do enough to secure California residents’ privacy.

The breach involving popular data transfer software MoveIt exposed Social Security numbers, birth dates and other personally identifiable information for about 769,000 retirees, CalPERS said June 21.
