Healthcare Data Breaches Have Affected 169 Million People

More than 169 million Americans have had their health records exposed in data breaches over the past decade, a new study in the medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine finds. So reports Salon.com.

The study covers 1,461 healthcare breaches disclosed to U.S. officials from Oct. 21, 2009 to July 1, 2019. The breaches reportedly included the sensitive medical information of 2.4 million patients, the less sensitive medical information of almost 50 million, the credit cards and banking accounts of 49 million, and the social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and birthdates of about 150 million.
