23andMe Faces First Lawsuit Over Data Leak

23andMe has been slapped with a lawsuit after the ancestry and genetic-testing website confirmed that unauthorized individuals recently gained access to some customer accounts. So reports The HIPAA Journal.

23andmeAccording to the complaint, filed in California federal court, “23andMe attempts to redirect the blame on to the criminal actors that gained access to Defendant’s customer accounts, in violation of their Terms of Service, while avoiding mention that their safeguards were inadequate.”

The lawsuit seeks class-action status, a jury trial, and assorted damages.
